The EuroMillions draw of December 11th marked another record for the EuroMillions lottery: the biggest jackpot ever worth €200 million was won by a French ticket-holder who matched the winning numbers 6, 9, 13, 24 and 41 & Lucky Stars 3 and 12.
How did the jackpot reach this record amount?
At the beginning of 2020, the EuroMillions lottery was changing the rules so as to deliver more and bigger jackpots. The European lottery officials were promising at that time that Europe’s top lotto game will offer more SuperDraw events and a boosted jackpot cap. The promise was kept! In 2020, we had a number of 4 EuroMillions SuperDraws and the jackpot cap was boosted from €190 million to €200 million.
|Date||Final Jackpot||Winner (s)||Winning numbers|
|November 20th||€200 million||1 (France)||6, 9, 13, 24 and 41 + Lucky Stars 3 & 12|
|September 25th||€130 million||1 (Spain)||19, 23, 34, 37 and 45 + Lucky Stars 1 & 7|

The latest one was held on Friday, November 20th and offered a guaranteed jackpot of €130 million. As nobody matched the winning numbers for that draw (or the three draws that followed), the jackpot grew between draws, finally hitting its new limit after the draw of Tuesday, December 1st. It remained at €200 million until December 11th, when it was finally won by a player from France.
Why is France the EuroMillions Champion?
As this is the 110th top prize won in the country, France becomes the EuroMillions jackpots champion. Next comes the UK, home to 109 top prize winners and Spain with 105 grand wins.
According to the lottery rules of France, the lucky ticket holder has 120 days to come forward and claim the prize. No details have been revealed referring the location of this winner, but the FDJ confirmed he played EuroMillions online.
Is This the New Jackpot Record?
Indeed, this is the biggest jackpot EuroMillions has ever delivered and it is the new jackpot cap of the European lottery. Previously, the jackpot cap stood at €190 million and it was reached four times:
- August 2012: Adrian and Gillian Bayford from Suffolk, UK
- October 2014: an anonymous ticket holder in Portugal
- October 2017: a ticket holder in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, Spain
- September 2019: an anonymous ticket holder in the UK
Besides being the new jackpot record of the EuroMillions lottery, this win marks snother notable milestone: this is the 500th jackpot won across all participating countries since the EuroMillions lottery was launched back in 2004.
