The young European lottery has something to celebrate in March 2022! The Eurojackpot will be ten years old soon and the officials are planning exciting changes to celebrate this milestone.
Bigger and better jackpots
In a few months it will be seeing nine digits prizes! If the jackpot cap now stands at €90 million, starting March 2022, it will be increased to €120 million euros. The current jackpot cap was reached 12 times already and represents the record for biggest lottery prize ever in many of the EuroJackpot participating countries.
From March onwards, Eurojackpot players can dream of wining big not once, but twice a week! Indeed, we will be able to try our luck at all the amazing EuroJackpot prizes in two draws every week instead of just one. The EuroJackpot winning numbers will be drawn also on Tuesdays, not only on Fridays. The first draw by the new rules of the game will take place on Friday, March 25th, 2022. The first Tuesday draw will be held on March 29th.
The jackpot will be rolling from one drawing to the next: from Friday to Tuesday, from Tuesday to Friday and so on. The jackpot will grow every time the winning numbers are not matched until the maximum amount of €120 million is reached.
Guess Range
At the same time, the guess range will also be adjusted. The main five numbers will keep being drawn out of 50 as before. However, there will be two Euro Numbers drawn from a guess range of 1-12 instead of two out of ten.
Odds of Winning
The new guess range bring a change also in the odds of winning. One participating ticket has now around 1:95 million chances of winning the jackpot. Starting March 2022, the odds winning the top category prize will be of around 1: 140 million.
A new era for Eurojackpot
With the new jackpot cap, “the magical threshold of 100 million” is reached, said Andreas Kötter, chairman of the Eurojackpot cooperation. Kötter is certain that lotteries with huge jackpots, displaying top prizes of several hundred million euros, quickly get into a wear and tear. “This is clearly shown by international developments. If the EuroJackpot cooperation does not want that, the product must be carefully developed. So we don’t make exorbitant jumps”, he says.
But Kötter also describes how difficult it is to find the right amount: “If you ask people on the street, everyone says a million is enough. But the truth is, the higher the jackpot, the higher the sales. If the jackpot stays at 90 million euros for several weeks, however, the momentum subsides. When the jackpot exceeds certain thresholds, interest also skyrockets and dreams grow bigger. “
With a new jackpot cap, we will see new records quite soon. Adding to this the Tuesday draw, we can safely say this is a new era for Eurojackpot. In 2012, the pan-European lottery we started by the cooperation between 7 countries. Now the official operators from 18 countries are involved in the organization of EuroJackpot draws.
Since its beginnings in 2012, “this multinational product has developed into a real success story. Eurojackpot is a high jackpot lottery. And we want it to stay that way”, said Kötter.
The Eurojackpot game rules have changed since the game began in 2012. Initially, the jackpot could not roll over more than 12 times, but this was found to be too limiting. In February 2013 the rollover limit was removed and replaced with a jackpot pap of €90 million. The matrix for the Euro Numbers was also changed, expanding from 1-8 to 1-10 in October 2014. Starting March 2022, it will expand even further, to 1-12.
